Localewright: Terms of Service

Last updated October 29, 2026

These terms apply to your use of Localewright, a machine translation service for app localization files (the "Service"), including the Localewright web page, its API, and any Localewright command-line tool or GitHub Action that calls them. Localewright is operated by Quietcog, a sole-proprietor business name ("Quietcog", "we", "us"). Quietcog's general Terms of Service, Refund Policy and Privacy Policy also apply; if they conflict with this page for Localewright, this page controls. By using the Service or buying from it, you agree to these terms.

1. What the Service does

Localewright reads a localization file you provide (JSON i18n, YAML, gettext .po, Apple .strings, XLIFF 1.2/2.x or Android strings.xml), translates its text with a machine translation engine, and returns a file in the same format. It tries to keep placeholders, plural forms and markup unchanged, and it checks its own output for those. It does not translate by human, and it does not review meaning, tone, legal effect or cultural fit.

2. Machine translation: a draft to review, no accuracy guarantee

Output is a machine-translation draft, produced automatically, and will contain errors. Quality varies by language (it is weakest for languages such as Japanese and Arabic), and some text may come back untranslated; we flag likely cases but cannot catch all of them. Read our Translation accuracy and machine translation disclaimer, which is part of these terms. In short: review every translation before you ship it, especially anything legal, medical, safety-related, financial or contractual. We do not warrant that translations are accurate, complete, natural, appropriate or fit for any purpose. Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Lao, Khmer and Burmese are best-effort languages: they are labelled "best-effort draft, review before shipping", are available only with a paid purchase, and are more likely to contain untranslated text or lost punctuation. If the engine does not support a language we say so before you pay.

3. Plans, limits and prices

Prices are in US dollars. Current offers:

Characters are counted by us on the text that would be sent to the engine, after we remove duplicates and protected placeholders. The quote you see before paying is the number we use. We may change prices or limits for future purchases.

3a. Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. For applicable purchases Stripe acts as merchant of record and reseller under Stripe Managed Payments, and may collect applicable sales tax or VAT. Per-file and bundle purchases are one-time payments. Pro subscriptions renew each billing period until cancelled; you can cancel at any time and cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds are covered by section 8.

4. Free capacity is limited, and we do not go over it

The free engine runs on a daily allowance that is shared by all users. We set our own daily limit below that allowance and stop when it is reached. We never switch to a paid engine on your behalf or at your cost, and we will not charge you for translation that could not be produced. When capacity for the day is used up, the Service tells you so and asks you to try again after the daily reset (midnight UTC). We do not guarantee availability, speed or capacity at any time.

We may also pause translation and checkout at any time (for example for maintenance or when capacity is short). While paused we do not start new checkouts or translations and we say so on the page; a payment that was already verified stays valid and can be used when the pause ends, or refunded on request (section 8).

For a paid purchase we check that capacity is available before we start checkout. If the engine is unable to translate your file after you have paid, you can retry with the same purchase, or ask us for a refund (section 8).

5. Your files

6. Bring-your-own-key engines (DeepL; currently switched off)

When this option is available, you may supply your own API key for DeepL with a request. Your key is used only to make that request to DeepL, is held only in memory for its duration, and is never stored or logged by us. The key and the translation are between you and DeepL. DeepL's own terms, data-use rules, quotas and charges apply to you, and you are responsible for your use of your DeepL account, for any costs on it, and for complying with DeepL's terms (including any limits on the type of content, personal data or purposes of use that apply to your DeepL plan). Because your text is sent to DeepL, DeepL may handle it as its terms and privacy policy describe. Localewright is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by DeepL. If we add other engines of this kind, the same rules apply.

7. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to break the law, to translate content you have no right to use, to send personal data, health data, payment card data or secrets, to attack, overload or probe the Service or other systems, to get around the free limits (for example with many network addresses), or to resell the Service as your own. We may block or suspend use that does this.

8. Refunds

As in the Quietcog Refund Policy: for a one-time per-file or bundle purchase you can request a refund within 14 days and we will refund the full price. For a Pro subscription you can request a refund within 14 days of your first payment; after that you can cancel any time, access continues to the end of the paid period, and we do not give partial refunds for later periods except where the law requires or a charge was made in error. If we could not deliver a translation for a purchase, we will refund it. Contact gb1@mail.grokbot.com with the email used for your order. Refunds are issued through Stripe. Because our output is machine translation, a translation containing errors of the kind described in the disclaimer is not by itself a reason for a refund after the 14 days, but tell us if something is broken (for example, a placeholder or tag was damaged or the file would not parse) and we will fix it or refund you.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, including any warranty of accuracy, quality, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement or uninterrupted service.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Quietcog is not liable for any loss caused by the content or accuracy of a translation, including mistranslation, omissions, offensive or inappropriate output, broken placeholders or markup, or anything that happens after you publish translated text. To the extent permitted by law, Quietcog's total liability for any claim relating to Localewright is limited to the amount you paid for that product in the 12 months before the claim, and Quietcog is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Third-party services

The Service relies on Cloudflare (hosting and the Workers AI engine), Stripe (payments) and, only if you supply your own key, DeepL. We do not control them, and their availability or terms can affect the Service.

12. Marketplaces

If a Localewright product is offered through a third-party marketplace, a purchase made there is governed by that platform's terms and refund policy, as in the Quietcog Terms.

13. Changes

We may update these terms or the Service. The date above shows the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
